Verena Brüning creates authentic, relatable portraits of people and places. Born in 1981 in Rheine Germany, Brüning studied photography at the FH Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, graduating 2010 with a DAAD and NAPA (Nordic Institute of Greenland) scholarship for her reportage in East Greenland. Based in Berlin, Bruening travels frequently to refresh her creative inspiration. She particularly enjoys topics such as sustainability, feminism and social commitment. After her first reportage on a sailing ship, she got her sailing and motorboat license, goes scuba diving, horseback riding and photographs underwater and out of the sky with drones. Her clients are magazines, newspapers, companies, agencies and sometimes social projects or NGO's. Her photo book "Windsbraut" about the first Atlantic crossing under sail with a crew of 47 women was published by März Verlag with the support of a further grant from Stiftung Kulturwerk for publication funding. Windsbraut won the Daylight Photo Arward in 2024.
