Debora Ruppert works as a freelance photographer with a focus on socially critical portrait photography from around the world. She is an autodidact. In her artistic work she explores sociopolitical issues such as homelessness, poverty, human trafficking, refugees and forced prostitution. She documents the lives of people on the fringes of society that are confronted with social injustice: homeless people on the streets of Berlin, women in Eastern Europe who are effected by human trafficking and forced prostitution, child slavery in Haiti, racism in the townships of South Africa, sex tourism in the Dominican Republic and single mothers in the slums of Malawi. Her clients include NGOs such as World Vision and International Justice Mission, as well as magazines, newspapers and publishers. Her freelance photo series have been published online and in SZ Magazine, DW, 3sat, Die Zeit and Der Spiegel, among others. Since 2018 her travelling exhibition “KEIN RAUM – encounters with homeless people” – can be seen in Berlin’s town halls.
